Improved Profit and Increased Freight Volumes

The first quarter in brief:

  • The Group's net sales for the period totaled SEK 1,602 million (1,478) and operating profit was SEK -29 million (-109).
  • 92 percent of freight trains arrived to customers within the promised hour.
  • General increase of freight volumes for Green Cargo. The greatest increases during the first quarter were in traffic for ScandFibre Logistics and in Green Cargo's intermodal traffic with trailers to and from locations in Germany.
  • 223 new transport agreements during the quarter. A five-year agreement with MTAB for ore transports will continue through 2015; it is worth just over SEK 250 million.

The Green Cargo Group's profit increased by SEK 80 million during the first quarter and sales increased by SEK 124 million compared to the same period last year, despite the harsh winter weather conditions experienced this year as well.

"Streamlining and increased freight volumes are responsible for the improved profit. Our sales organization has made almost 500 customer calls and has had a strong quarter, winning 223 new transport agreements. The agreements have a full-year value of SEK 240 million," says CEO Mikael Stöhr.

A harsh winter is rough on the vehicle fleet, and the importance of having resources to cope with industrial transports even when the system is subjected to tough conditions became clear.

"We can still perform even when the traffic system gets messy. Our 469 locomotives allowed us to allocate resources where most needed, and freight traffic the first quarter continued even when the snow and cold weather were most severe," says Mikael Stöhr.

Green Cargo's third-party logistics has entered a four-year agreement with the country's biggest private wine importer, making it the largest in Sweden within the segment.

"Green Cargo Logistics has also entered an agreement with PEAB, which makes us a just-in-time supplier of building materials. This pilot project will open up new business opportunities," says Mikael Stöhr.
