LKW Walter becomes Climate Comet of the Year 2010

The large Austrian transportation company, LKW Walter, has received the Climate Comet of the Year Award for 2010. LKW Walter’s trucks can be seen in many of Europe’s countries and more and more of its trailers are traveling the long distances by train.

Green Cargo awards the Climate Comet of the Year Award to a company that, based on its conditions, has made significant improvements in the climate impact of its logistics.

”LKW Walter consciously invests in trailers that are suitable for train transport. This spring LKW Walter has increased its combined transports by train, meaning that the road network solely between Sweden and Germany has been relieved of 26.000 truck transports. It is with great pleasure that I present this award to a company that leads the way when it comes to the environmental adaptation of transportation,” said Green Cargo’s CEO Mikael Stöhr during the presentation.

The award was accepted by Karl Schauer, representing LKW Walter´s Board of Directors at a seminar in Stockholm, at which the Minister for the Environment, Andreas Carlgren, participated and gave the government’s view on transportation and environmental issues.

This was the third year running that the Climate Comet of the Year Award had been presented. The previous years’ awards went to the wine importer Fondberg, who moved the transportation of wine from southern Europe from road to rail, and to Coop, who launched the “Coop train” last year. Using this solution, Coop transports approximately 350 truck trailers by train between Helsingborg and Stockholm each week.
