Notice of strike and industrial action in Swedish ports

Two trade unions, the Swedish Dockworkers’ Union and the Swedish Transport Workers’ Union (Transport), have announced upcoming industrial actions that may impact Green Cargo’s transports to and from Swedish ports starting on Wednesday, 21 May at 12:00.

The Swedish Dockworkers’ Union has issued a strike notice for Wednesday, 21 May between 12:00 and 18:00, affecting all Swedish ports. In addition, targeted strikes have been announced at specific terminals:

  • Gothenburg Roro Terminal: strike from Thursday, 22 May at 09:00 until Monday, 26 May at 22:30.
  • APM Terminals: strike from Sunday, 25 May at 22:00 until Monday, 26 May at 23:00.

The Swedish Transport Workers’ Union (Transport) has announced the following actions:

  • As of 21 May at 16:00: blockade on new hires, temporary staffing, overtime, additional hours and adjustments to regular working hours.
  • From Friday, 30 May to Wednesday, 11 June: total work stoppage and blockade of all work at a number of workplaces.

Potential impact on transports

The various strike notices may lead to temporary terminal closures, especially where operations rely heavily on overtime, hired personnel or staff covered by the actions. Already in this early phase, we see that the overtime blockade may have a significant impact on port operations.
Based on current information, we assess that a potential strike will have a substantial effect on our transport services.

We are monitoring the situation closely

Green Cargo is closely monitoring developments in cooperation with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise. We will keep affected customers informed through our established communication channels.
