Continued Strained Traffic Situation Due to Heavy Snowfall
Currently, we are experiencing a strained traffic situation caused by heavy snowfall in several parts of the country. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued multiple weather warnings, which has led the Swedish Transport Administration to raise its preparedness level and Green Cargo to activate its disruption organization.
Below is a summary of the situation in the affected areas.
Ådalsbanan
Ådalsbanan is closed from 12:30 PM today, Thursday, January 8, with an estimated reopening at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 9. Rerouting may occur via the Northern Main Line, though with reduced capacity.
Gävle Freight Yard
Large amounts of snow are causing severely reduced shunting and traffic. The forecast for returning to normal traffic depends on ongoing snow removal work and future weather conditions; no estimated time is currently available.
Sundsvall
Here as well, large amounts of snow in a short time have led to a halt in shunting. The forecast for returning to normal traffic depends on snow removal and future weather conditions; no estimated time is currently available.
Eastern Sweden south of Stockholm
The area has been hit by heavy snowfall in recent days, affecting traffic through canceled trains in locations where snow removal has not yet been completed. Snow removal is ongoing and is expected to continue until Monday, January 12.
West Coast
This area has also been affected by heavy snowfall in a short time, mainly impacting traffic to and from the Port of Gothenburg, resulting in canceled trains in locations where snow removal has not yet been completed.
We have activated a disruption organization and a disruption task force with continuous updates regarding weather and traffic conditions. Intensive work is underway to regain control of the situation, aiming to carry out the transports that are possible despite weather impacts and return to normal operations as soon as conditions allow. Information is updated continuously.
