Continued Strained Traffic Situation Due to Heavy Snowfall, but Forecast Shows Improvement Ahead

Today, Monday, January 12, we are still experiencing a strained traffic situation due to heavy snowfall in several parts of the country. Conditions have improved, and weather warnings have been lifted across Sweden, although we are still dealing with the aftermath of the snow and continued cold temperatures. We have ended the disruption organization in several regions and are now focusing on returning to normal traffic operations.

Below is a summary:

Northern Sweden
Ådalsbanan reopened on January 10 at 08:00.

Gävle freight yard and Sundsvall – snow clearance has been carried out, but some challenges remain due to the cold. Traffic is running again, though with slightly reduced capacity.

Due to the cold, we have, in consultation with Trafikverket, introduced temporary train length restrictions in the north since Friday, January 9. These restrictions are expected to remain in place until Monday, January 12.

Eastern Sweden south of Stockholm

Trafikverket’s preparedness level 2 was lifted on January 12 at 04:00. Snow clearance is ongoing, and some traffic impact may still occur.

West Coast

Continued challenges with shunting and switching after the recent snowstorm. Milder weather is expected, which will help improve traffic conditions going forward.

Europe

Maschen, Germany is open again, but the aftermath of the previous heavy snowfall continues to cause traffic disruptions in our international operations.

Our intensive efforts to regain control of the situation continue, with the goal of returning to normal operations as soon as weather conditions allow.
